Physicist, Ravin Jain, is the new Strategy Head of the Formula 1 team of Scuderia Ferrari. The UK-born 28-year-old boasts of Indian roots and is a motorsport enthusiast. The Oxford graduate is the holder of a first-class degree in physics and also has obtained distinction in his postgraduation in mathematical and theoretical physics. His expertise and interest in strategy and data science application lead him to find work on the mathematical modeling team at Scuderia Ferrari for six months. In 2017, Ravin was placed on the race strategy team as an engineer. More recently, in Februrary 2023, he became the Head of Race Operations Strategy of Scuderia Ferrari. He replaced Iñaki Rueda. The season-opener of 2023, the Bahrain Grand Prix in early March, was Ravin’s debut race in his new role.

World’s most elite motorsport’s one of the top race teams, Ferrari, saw a few debilitating choices and upsets in the last season - most notably at Monaco, Silverstone and Hungaroring - which has naturally prompted the shuffle. Ferrari team principal Frederic Vasseur termed the appointment as a “complete review of the team’s strategy division.”

F1 in His Veins

The head strategist began his career at Caterham working on data processing in 2013 and then moved on to the Williams F1 team in the later season as part of their strategy team’s software design division. In 2015, Ravin took up a summer job at Scuderia Ferrari’s strategy team besides working with their mathematical modeling group. Post his Master’s at Oxford, Ravin was absorbed by the Maranello team as a full-timer.
